Outstanding American History Teacher

2012 Winner – Rodney Hess

Overview:
State Societies may present a Certificate to an individual for: “Outstanding service by the exemplification and encouragement of Patriotism and interest in American History and in our American Heritage.”

Eligibility:
Teachers in elementary, secondary, intermediate, high schools and colleges are eligible, as well as leaders of youth organizations, who promote the study of American History. Members of Daughters of Colonial Wars are not eligible. The teacher nominated must teach in the state that sponsors the nomination.

 

 

Nomination Requirements:
The National Historian reviews requests for the Daughters of Colonial Wars teacher award:

  1. The nomination must be postmarked by March 1st
  2. Must include Statement of Accomplishments which merit this award
  3. At least one reference letter should be included
  4. A copy of nominees resume

Award:
Monetary awards to teachers in schools (K-12) who meet the criteria specified by the National Historian receive a beautiful embossed certificate with the tri-color insignia of the Society and are awarded the following amounts of money:

  1. $50.00 to the teacher elected and nominated by the State Society
  2. $250.00 to the winning entry in each of the three divisions
  3. $500.00 to the national winner

Notification:
The National Historian will notify the State President if their applicant is a division or national winner. The winners will be announced at the Annual Assembly.
